What will I learn at truck driving school?
Most truck driving schools are divided into two training parts: classroom instruction and driving training.  In classroom training, you will learn the basics of operating a commercial truck, federal and state laws, safety procedures, and general truck driving information.  In driving training, you will receive actual behind-the-wheel training that will enable you to get the hands-on experience needed to pass the driving test of the CDL exam.

Do I receive several hours of behind the wheel training at truck driving school?
During the process of selecting the right truck driving school, one of the things you will want to learn is how much behind-the-wheel training you will receive. Is it 20 hours, 40 hours, or 50 hours? You probably want to attend a school that offers around 50 hours of driving training, supplemented with classroom instruction.

I don't have a regular West Virginia driver's license. Can I still get a West Virginia commercial driver's license?
No.  You must have a current West Virginia driver's license before you can obtain a West Virginia CDL.

Can I still drive a tractor trailer if I receive a traffic ticket while driving?
In most cases, yes.  However, no matter what the violation is, you are required by law to let your employer know of the violation within 30 days.
